Enrique Mazzola
Among the most innovative and dynamic conductors of his
generation, Enrique Mazzola is already well established on an
international level. Alongside a broad range of operatic
conducting, he is an expert interpreter of contemporary music and
also specialises in the classical and early romantic periods.
As both an opera and concert conductor, he regularly
collaborates with orchestras such as the Orchestre National de
France, Orchestre National de Belgique, Orchestra dell’Accademia
Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, Orchestra Nazionale della RAI, Tokyo
Philharmonic, NDR Radiophilharmonie, Russian National Symphony
Orchestra, BBC Philharmonic and theatres such as Teatro alla Scala,
Deutsche Oper Berlin, Théâtre des Champs-Elysées in Paris, La
Monnaie, Bayerische Staatsoper, Liceu in Barcellona, Stuttgart
Staatstheater, Teatro del Maggio Musicale in Florence, Opera di
Roma, Flamish Opera, the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow.
Since
1997 he has conducted in major European festivals, including an
acclaimed new production of Falstaff at the Aix-en-Provence
Festival, and München Opernfestspiele, Festival de Radio France,
Rossini Opera Festival, Biennale of Venice, Wexford Opera
Festival, Wiesbaden Maifestspiele, Festival de Granada.
An
accomplished interpreter of contemporary music, Enrique conducted
the world premiere of Il Re Nudo by Luca Lombardi at Teatro
dell’Opera di Roma in 2009, Medusa by Arnaldo De Felice at the
Bayerische Staatsoper in 2005, Il Processo by Alberto Colla at La
Scala in 2001 and Isabella by Azio Corghi at the Rossini Opera
Festival in 1998, and many others premieres with the major
European symphonic orchestras.
Since 2001 he has been
invited by the principal European opera houses: Il Barbiere di
Siviglia at La Scala, Bayerische Staatsoper and Deutsche Oper
Berlin; Falstaff at the Paris Champs-Elyseés theatre; La Finta
Giardiniera and L’Italiana in Algeri at the Teatro del Maggio
Musicale in Florence, Una Cosa Rara, Hyperion and Flying Dutchman
at the Staatstheater in Stuttgart, Il Re Pastore at La Monnaie,
Lucia di Lammermoor in Montecarlo, Macbeth at Opera du Rhin
Between 1999 and 2003 Enrique was the Artistic and Music
Director of the Cantiere Internazionale d’Arte in Montepulciano,
where he conducted many symphonic concerts and new operatic
productions with the RNCM Symphony Orchestra.
Born in Spain
into a musical family, he started violin and piano studies at an
early age, later graduating to conducting and to composition at
the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory in Milan.
